For me this is a completely new experience- I have never dealt with anything to do with games except playing them. Only recently I had started to show an interest in game design as a whole but going to a game jam... and making a working game... in 48 hours.. that was a bold decisions... but it turned out to me the perfect one! I learned so much and I had an amazing time!! My role in the team was the designer (one of the 3 designers). I did a whole level- the objects that interfere with the character's completion of the game, the backgrounds, an animated playable character and I also designed the main menu and buttons for the whole game! You can find my work in the 'My Work' tab or if you click HERE. Also to download and test our game, you can do so HERE (there's a Mac and Win version). Pictures from the jam below: P.S. Also known as 'The Adventurous One'As a typical tourist I had to eventually go out and about and explore the city. And from what my eyes saw, Richmond is.. interesting. I haven't been out much but from my 4-hour trip quite a few things captured my eye. I am not saying that it is not beautiful... but I have seen better. Pictures below:
It was quite an adventure getting to Belle Isle. No one knew how to get to the island
(I went there with Harry, he is my boyfriend and we are both from England, doing the exchange program// this is his blog and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!) so we had to go all the way over to the other side of the river (through an enormous and very interesting passenger bridge {the one from the panorama}) and then walk back again through a hiking trail. When we got to the actual island we were tired and hungry. Luckily I had packed some sandwiches and drinks and we had an amazing picnic on the rocks! We then did some more exploring of the island and it's history from the information signs that were everywhere and promised to ourselves to go back to the island again! Our adventures came to an end and we were sent off from the island by the beautiful sounds of the passing train next to the island. What a great day that was! Sweet pickles? No corn on my pizza? Shared bedroom? Crystal Pepsi? Where did I come???As the title goes.
The journey from one continent to another is just horrible. I am a person who does not like waiting and flying with planes, I get impatient, cranky and sick... that said, I had to fly with 2 planes and wait for hours at the airports... you can imagine what I was going through. Luckily, the first plane that I was flying with had all the comforts. I had food almost all the time, a small screen in front of me, filled with different games and movies, a pillow and blanket from the airline and loads of beautiful views outside my window (not counting the ocean because that was just water everywhere...duh). I watched two movies and one of them, as an artist/animator, I highly recommend- 'Bacuman'. I also tried learning Japanese with the on-flight games and won a game on Poker. By the time we had to land I was already tired. Little did I know that I had to wait 4 hours for my next flight due massive snowstorm in Richmond, VA. Nothing in that sentence was good- not the fact that I had to wait, nor the snowstorm... It had already been 15 hours since I left homely Bristol when I had to board the second plane. Two hours later I was in Richmond. Finally! I had arranged transport from the airport to my accommodation near my soon-to-be university. And this is how my travels ended... for now. At first it was nothing but a simple thought: 'I want to go to America!'- so childish, so innocent.
Then came the decision. 'Yes, I will go and study in America for a semester.' And then... The application, the details, the VISA, the second application, more details, the complications, the struggles, the deadlines, the plane tickets, the emotions... and the flight.. the wait.. the many hours. And here I am, writing from America. |
